Quick Steps to do the TP-Link router setup

  1. In the process of doing TP-Link router setup, first connect the internet cable, which must be provided to you by your internet service provider( usually you can identify it by seeing the cable coming from the wall) to TP-Link router.
  2. In the second step, connect the computer, using the ethernet cable to the TP-Link router

  1. Open the TP_Link router setup page to do the above-mentioned settings such as opening the web browser and entering the encryption details
  2. Now to do the TP-Link router setup, configure the WAN type connection. On the router’s management page, click Network > WAN on the left of the web page.
  3. Here change the WAN connection type from WAN connection to PPPoE. In here enter the username and [password given by your service provider
  4. After entering the details as mentioned above, save the settings d reboot the TP-Link router.
  5. You have the choice to change the username and password whenever you want to. Now restart the computer and try to connect the setup wireless network.
  6. Make sure You Reboot Your Tp-link router And Computer after tp-link setup. Please Remember its combo device (modem+router) so please Do not reset it again and again.

Things you will need to do the TP-Link Router setup:

  • A working computer with an ethernet cable in good condition
  • The TP-Link router and computer both with power supply
  • To give the power supply to the both, computer and TP-Link router a power outlet.
  • One ethernet cable and an internet connection

TP-Link router setup with cable modem

  1.  Power off the TP-Link router and modem with the computer. Now to move further Connect the modem to the WAN port of the TP-LInk router with an ethernet cable. Here connect your computer with TP-Link router’s WAN port with the Ethernet cable.
  2. Firstly give the power supply to your modem, then in sequence to the modem and computer. please make sure you are able to access the internet with a direct connection from the main computer to your cable modem. If the direct connection does n’t work, please contact your Internet Service Provider.
  3. Now to do the TP-Link router setup with a cable modem, open the web browser of your choices like Google Chrome/Firefox or internet explorer. On the top of the web URL bar, please type 192.168.1.1 to access the Tp-link router setup page.
  4. Now setup the WAN connection type, when you log into the TP-Link router page; click on the NEtwork situated on the left-hand side fourth option from the menu. Click on the WAN connection type from the drop-down menu under WSN connection type.
  5. Now, wait for next few minutes and check the WAN part on the Status page, if it shows an IP address, that means the connection between the Router and the Modem is established. If there is no WAN IP address, please move to the next step as mentioned below.
  6. Click on the network on the left side of the menu, click on WAN MAC address and select the clone mac address and then click save. If you don’t find any type of WAN IP address, you can restart your cable modem and then wait for next ten seconds. After waiting for ten seconds, restart your TP-Link router. After the restarting process, you should get Wan IP address and Internet access. Some cable modem has a backup battery inside. To completely restart the cable modem, please take the battery out, and then unplug the power supply.

TP-Link router setup with a modem of Static IP

  1. First power off the modem and then TP-Link router and computer. Now connect the cable modem tot he WAN port of your TP-Link router with an ethernet cable. Connect your computer which used to connect directly to your cable modem to the router’s LAN port via an Ethernet cable. And make sure the corresponding LEDs to the WAN and LAN port light up.
  2. Here also in sequence first give power supply to your modem and then TP-Link router and in last to the computer.
  3. open the web browser of your choices like Google Chrome/Firefox or internet explorer. On the top of the web URL bar, please type 192.168.1.1 to access the Tp-link router setup page.
  4. Now to move further, set up the WAN connection type. When you logged into the TP-Link router’s web interface page, click on the network and then WAN on the left side of the menu. Here select the Static IP as the WAN connection type from the drop down menu. Also enter the values in the given boxes, of IP parameters given to you by your internet service provider. After entering the values in the given boxes of IP parameters.
  5. click on save button, Now wait for next two minutes to see whether you get internet access.

TP-Link router setup with the DSL modem of Dynamic IP

  1. First power off the modem and then TP-Link router and computer. Now connect the cable modem tot he WAN port of your TP-Link router with an ethernet cable. Connect your computer which used to connect directly to your cable modem to the router’s LAN port via an Ethernet cable. And make sure the corresponding LEDs to the WAN and LAN port light up.
  2. Here also in sequence first give power supply to your modem and then TP-Link router and in last to the computer.
  3. open the web browser of your choices like Google Chrome/Firefox or internet explorer. On the top of the web URL bar, please type 192.168.1.1 to access the Tp-link router setup page.
  4. Now setup the WAN connection type. Click on the network situated on the left side of the menu and select WAN on the left side of the web page.
  5. Here select the Dynamic IP as the WAN connection type on the right side of the web page. Here select the Static IP as the WAN connection type from the drop-down menu. Also enter the values in the given boxes, of IP parameters given to you by your internet service provider. After entering the values in the given boxes of IP parameters.
  6. Then click on the Save button to do the savings of the done settings. Now after doing this, wait for next few minutes and verify the WAN part on the status page.
  7. Here if the page shows any sort of IP address, that means the connection between the TP-Link router and the modem has been established.
  8. If there is no WAN IP address, please click Network->LAN in the left side menu; change the IP Address to a routers different segment. Then click “Save”.
  9. For instance, most of the TP-Link uses 192.168.1.1 as their default LAN IP address. This Ip address can be a conflict between the IP range of your existing ADSL modem.  That is the reason, your TP-Link router is not able to establish the connection with the modem, which ultimately stops you from internet access.
  10. To fix this issue, we need to change the LAN IP address of the router to avoid IP conflict, such as 192.168.2.1. After you changed the LAN IP address, next time you need to use the new IP address to access the router’s management page.
Fixing the limited connection issue with TP-Link router

Problem with ISP: Wait till internet connectivity restores by its own, if this does not happen, then restart the modem.

Weak signals:  Make sure all the cables connected securely also check with the router’s location where it receives the adequate signals .If it is itself not getting good signals, you won’t get internet connection out of it. Change the location ofthe router and try again.

The issue with DNS: Google Public DNS works great and may fix your connection problem. You can put this DNS IP address in router DHCP settings [DHCP > DHCP Settings > Primary DNS & Secondary DNS] or you can simply put this DNS address in your LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi connection settings [Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings]. To change DNS for Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection, Open Ethernet / Local Area Connection / Wi-Fi > Properties > Networking > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties > Use the following DNS server addresses. You may change DNS for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) as well but your ISP may cause an issue if it does not support IPv6.

The issue of DHCP: There is a good chance that the DHCP you are using cause IP conflict or unable to assign the IP address. Log into the setup panel in a web browser and open the DHCP and disable it.
